What's on My Mind These Days?
No one's going to read this, but the message to me is so loud that it can't be ignored.

I am here to tell you all that inventory is advertising.
What?
I am here to tell you that money once allocated to ad dollars need to be placed into floor plan to support selection!
Why?
Don't laugh, It'll sound simple, once I explain it...

The Internet is where all the autodealer shopping action is.
Internet shoppers are drawn to selection like a moth to flame.
The more units you have on the ground, the more you dominate the shoppers search time!

Allow me to use a actual 'Net Sales Story to make the point 1st:
A rep takes an up from a Rochester shopper on the ForeRunner. It didn't have leather, the rep. sells him a TrailBlazer LT.
Now that's how its done!

I've been preaching that the key to winning this game in the future is "Operations & Inventory". Here is the way the market is shaping up for the foreseeable future.

IT'S HERE NOW:
Inventory size is the GLUE that holds Internet shoppers interest. A typical Used Car King visitor is at 12minutes per visit, smaller dealers (under 500 units on the ground) keep shoppers are at our site for about 3 1/2 minutes. If you were in Rochester, Auburn, Syracuse or where ever and were seriously thinking about driving to Simmons-Rockwell, it gets alot easier when they have 10-25 units that you'd like to see.

Operations.
Remember the saying that you add costs to a units bottom line and sell up from there? That use to work before the Internet. Got an expense, tack it onto the car and sell up from there. That rule is about to die a violent death. In the next few years, the web shopper will have all the tools needed to compare 2 cars like we can compare 2 airlines. We can either be United Airlines or SouthWest Air. Operations errors and in-efficiencies will allow smarter operators to come in and shred us up!

COMING SOON:
Feedback. Somewhere in the near future, either cars.com or autotrader.com (or autos.yahoo.com or KBB or someone similar) will cave in a start offering consumer feedback rankings on the dealers. To those dealers that embrace "good feedback at all costs" and roll out the red carpet, they'll will enjoy higher grosses and faster closes. This means that if UsedCarKing makes too many people unhappy, they're going to loose sales to smarter operators who maintain a near perfect feedback.

Define paradigm shift: A significant change from one fundamental view to another.
